Requesting for articles/research on D-MER or Dysphoric(Depressive?) Milk Ejection Reflex.
I've always had nausea and just a general feeling of malaise whenever I nurse my DS. It always disappears after our nursing sessions. At the beginning, I was told that it was oxytocin and would wane after a few weeks of nursing. 2 years and a few months after, I'm still feeling it. In another message board, someone mentioned D-MER but I haven't seen many articles about it.
I think this would be really helpful for women like me.
Thanks!

This sounds exactly like what my friend experienced 14 years ago when she tried to BF her first two children.

I always feel that way while nursing DS... he's four months.. sometimes it's a lot worse than others.. I can always tell when I'm having a let down because I get a big wave of it... I'm anxious to see what people have found out about it...
It says on the site:
"D-MER hasn't gotten news coverage yet; medical articles are just starting to be formulated but are not in print. D-MER hasn't been in the labs, is totally funded out of pocket and at this point all you are going to find are a few blog references online. That's because these things take time and everything has to start somewhere. But getting the information and education out there into mother's hands couldn't wait."
I hope that helps!

I'd never heard about D_MER before but I stumbled across this after reading your post. There are lots of comments from moms who've been through it at the bottom. HTH![]()

I also heard that Shiela Kitzinger talks about mothers who feel "let-down in their stomach" in one of her books...have yet to find out which book yet though.
And apparently the ABA publication Essence had a "Your Story" about it having an emotional reaction to letdown in one of their issues, but can't figure out which one either.
I suffer from D-MER (dysmorphic milk ejection reflex) and I think it would be great if Kellymom could put an article about it on the website. I know many other mothers have it too and would appreciate being able to get information about what is "wrong" with them. D-MER is the condition that causes me to feel angry, aggressive and sometimes worse during a milk letdown. The symptoms can vary from woman to woman though. There is a website about it d-mer.org. One of the ladies on the 6-12 month board posted it for us to look at. It is very helpful in understanding this problem.
Thanks for listening!
